Sizing is genuinely unpredictable. Bridal sizing runs completely different from street sizing. A bride who wears a size 8 in everyday clothing might be a 12 in one designer and a 10 in another. When you try on a dress, you discover things about yourself you didn’t expect. The mermaid silhouette you were certain about might feel too restrictive. The A-line you almost dismissed might make you tear up the moment you see it in the mirror. We watch this happen every single week. The dress brides end up choosing is often nothing like the dress they walked in wanting, and they only found it because they were open to trying things on in person.
You also get expert eyes on the fit. A trained consultant can look at how a dress sits on your shoulders, where the waist hits, whether the train is proportional to your height, details that matter enormously but are impossible to assess from a flat image on a website.

If you find a dress you love online, check whether any local boutiques carry that designer. Many brides don’t realize that the gowns they’re admiring on Instagram are available to try on at authorized retailers near them. Walking into an appointment with specific designers or styles in mind gives your consultant a clear starting point and makes the whole process more efficient.
Red Flags When Shopping Online
Not every online bridal retailer is created equal. If a designer dress is being sold at a price that seems impossibly low, trust that instinct, it probably is. Knockoff wedding dresses are a real and growing problem, and the photos used to sell them are often stolen from legitimate designers. Before purchasing from any online retailer, check whether they’re an authorized dealer for the brands they claim to carry. Read reviews from real brides, not just the five-star testimonials on the seller’s own website. And if there’s no clear return policy published on the site, walk away.
